Their writing breathes new life into the story while maintaining the original plot and flavor of Shakespeare's language. With wit and insight, the story provides a model for making the difficult choice to end the cycle of vengeance. COEquinox Theatre Company announces auditions for Terrence McNally’s And Things That Go Bump in the Night Directed by Brian BrooksBizarre in style, yet filled with an arresting immediacy and perceptiveness, the play deals with a strange, intriguing family that has barricaded itself away in a cellar, seeking sanctuary from the fearsome, sinister world “outside” or often referred to as “it.” Led by Ruby, the mother, Sigfrid and Lakme (her children) lure “special visitors” to their home, only to be seduced and taunted. The father, due to his state of mind, interferes in no way, letting the madness plague his family. The grandfather makes numerous attempts to be a voice of reason. He fails, every time. To better understand the “look” and ‘feel’ we’re achieving in this production, think of a cross between a 50s horror film (Night of the Living Dead) meets a contemporary tragedy play (i.e. Sam Shepard’s Buried Child.) Definitely says theatre of the absurd. Auditions, Call Backs and performances will be at:The Bug Theatre3654 Navajo Street in Denver. Rehearsal locations TBD but it will be in a location in either S. E. Denver, Lowry, or the Highlands area. Performances will be Friday and Saturday evenings February 24 through March 17 Rehearsals will begin in mid December before the holidays. Actors needed (All ethnicities and looks will be considered): FA: M late 30’s – 50s; Somewhat absent-minded father of the family. A “self-imprisoned” slave. Has the fewest lines of the show. RUBY: F late 30’s – 50s; Fa’s wife. She is the queen-bee of the family. A former singer/actress “burnout” but has managed to keep her good looks. SIGFRID: M 20s; Their son. Dark and handsome. Closeted bi-sexual. Philosophical about everything LAKME: (pronounced lock-may) F late teens; Their daughter, Very wired and rambunctious. Awkward mannerisms. GRANDFA: M 70s-ish; Fa’s dad. Imprisoned to the family, from a wheelchair. Always thinks he’s leaving the family. The only ‘sane’ one among them, and that’s not saying much. CLARENCE: M 20’s; The “special visitor” of the evening. TXAbout Auditions As a community theatre we hold open auditions for most of our productions. Auditions are generally held five to eight weeks prior to a production's opening night but the best way to stay current with upcoming auditions is to subscribe to our Mailing List. All auditions will follow the Plaza Theatre Company Audition Credo. We invite everyone who wishes to audition to please follow our Audition Guidelines.Upcoming AuditionsThe Foreigner - November 7th (go to plaza-theatre.com for more info)Fiddler on the Roof :November 28th and November 29th, 2011(go to plaza-theatre.com for more info)General Rehearsal Schedule:Rehearsals are generally Monday - Wednesday from 7pm - 10 pm and Saturday mornings starting at 9am. The theater is closed on Sundays.FOLLOW URL TO MAKE AN AUDITION APPT:http://www.appointmentquest.com/provider/2040169233?schedule=auditionsfortheforeignerAudition Guidelines Here is a listing of Audition Guidelines for all auditions at Plaza Theatre Company:1. Be prepared. Thoroughly research the audition requirements provided by the theatercompany and prepare with material to fulfill those requirements. Different shows meandifferent Directors so study the Audition Notice to understand the specific requirements forthe show for which you intend to audition. NEVER tell those casting the show you've cometo the audition unprepared. Also, provide them with exactly what they request, for example, if they ask for 32 bars, sing them your best 32 bars.2. Know your schedule. Don't come to an audition without a clear knowledge of your availability. If significant conflicts exist, be prepared to list them for the information of those casting the show.3. Know the show. If the materials are available, research the show for which you are auditioning. If it's a musical, listen to the soundtrack. If it's a play, read the script. Learn about the characters for which you are auditioning.4. Provide detailed information about yourself. When possible, supply the Director with a resume of past experience as well as a recent head shot. If you have no headshot available, you should provide a recent photograph. Be sure the contact information you provide is accurate and legible.5. Bring your own materials. Do not expect the theater for which you are auditioning to provide the materials you are using to audition. You should bring your own sheet music neatly prepared and marked for the pianist.6. Prepare to sing with a pianist. Our preference at Plaza is that you sing with the pianist provided at the audition. If you simply must sing with some sort of recorded track, provide a track that is simple to cue.7. Be polite. Be courteous to those for whom you are auditioning as well as to otherperformers at the audition.8. Dress appropriately. Even an audition needs a costume. Be familiar with what is expected at the audition so that you may dress to suit what will be asked of you.9. Do not assume an invitation to audition by the Director or Producer is an indication of pre-casting. In fact, Plaza Theatre Company only pre-casts in very rare situations, and when we do, it is announced BEFORE the audition. Being invited to audition will never mean the role is yours before the audition at Plaza.10. Plan to attend the entire Call Back. Every Director has a different style, so every CallBack is different. Should the Director invite you to the Call Back, plan to attend the session for as long as your presence is required. Many Directors require seeing many things from those auditioning before they arrive at their casting decisions. Plan to give them everything they need to see.11. Listen carefully at the audition. Details about the timing of casting decisions, first rehearsals, etc. are often given verbally at the Call Back audition. Always listen carefully for these details while at the Call Back.12. Don't get discouraged. You may, once casting decisions have been made, be unhappy with the role you receive or you may not get cast at all. Don't be discouraged, just mark it down as a learning experience and move on to the next audition. There will always be another show.Plaza Theatre Company111 S.
